Frequently asked Questions

Q: Is weight an issue when it comes to mini sidecars?

A: Yes and no. Yes meaning acceleration and no in every other category. For example,  I am 5-10 and 210 pounds, Suzanne is 5-4 and will never tell. The sidecar car handles us just fine. You must remember that sidecar racing is a game of momentum and not acceleration. The team who can carry the most speed through the turns is the one that wins. Granted, a lighter team will get a better start, but the heaver team will be able to hold the sidecar down better through the corners.

Q: Do you need a truck to haul a mini sidecar to the races?

A: No. The sidecar is less than 22 inches in height and less than 34 inches wide. With this in mind it should fit on the back of most hatch back vehicles. It will fit in SUV’s and mini vans with no trouble at all. But to be on the safe side, measure your vehicle before you attempt to put it in.

Q: Is sidecar racing dangerous?

A: Just like any other motorsport, mini sidecar racing does involve a certain amount of  risk. I suggest a well-padded leather motorcycle suit, helmet, boots and gloves every time you ride. (Note to drivers, large life insurance policy on the monkey doesn’t hurt either……….LOL) Since we have been riding our mini sidecar we have crashed twice. The first time was when we first got it. We were going through a tight left then right turn. Suzanne was unable to climb on top of me fast enough so we went straight into a mud puddle. I flipped over the front along with Suzanne doing the same on her side. Neither of us got hurt but it took me weeks to get all the mud off our suits and the sidecar. Our second crash involved a full speed left hand corner. Apparently some one from the heat race before us left dirt on the track and when Suzanne started to lean out of the sidecar it suddenly spun to the right slamming me into a hay bail and then on top of Suzanne. (Another good reason to have a partner, soft landings). Again, neither of us got hurt (well, maybe my ego). As you can see mini sidecar racing can be a full contact sport so dress appropriately.

Q:  Do Shriner's ride mini sidecars in parades?

A:  NO! .
